Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Instructor, Political Science for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

Representative Duties

1. Teach college-level courses in Political Science.

2. Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, take a leadership role in generating student interest in Political Science curriculum, adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities.

3. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

4. Teach online/Distant Education, or willingness to learn.

5. Participate in campus professional and collegial activities, including, but not limited to, committee membership, staff meetings, articulation with four-year colleges and universities, and community outreach.

6. Teach late afternoon, evening and/or off campus when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment.

7. Interact successfully with other faculty, staff and administrators.

8. Work on assessment, Student Learning Outcomes, and Program Review related to curriculum and programs. Demonstrate an interest in developing and maintaining curriculum.

9. Stay current in Political Science discipline.

10. Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s in political science, government, or international relations OR bachelor’s in any of the above AND master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, JD, or LL.B. OR the equivalent.

Demonstrate ability to teach the following area: American Government; demonstrate ability to develop and teach one or more of the following areas: International Relations, Comparative Government, Political Theory, California State and Local Government.

Background/experience in the Political Science discipline, such as, experience in government, campaigns/elections experience, domestic/international organizations/associations experience, etc.

Job Work Schedule

This position is full-time, tenure-track, 2017-2018 Academic Year. Employment will begin on or about August 14, 2017.
